of The Pacific football team. It was while playing football that
Dr. Davis discovered the benefits of chiropractic after a low
back injury. Dr. Davis said "After 2 weeks of physical therapy
and medication I was still bent over and unable to straighten
up. I began to experience pain radiating into my legs. Frustrated,
I began seeing a chiropractor who evaluated me and informed me
that I had rotated a vertebra out of position in my lower back
which was pressing on the sciatic nerve. Following the first treatment
I was able to straighten up and after a few more treatments I
was able to begin running and working out. Within another week
I was able to resume playing football. I was so impressed with
the results of what chiropractic care did for me, as well as many
of my teammates, that upon graduation I decided to continue my
education and become a chiropractor myself so I could help others
as well."
Dr. Davis earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the renowned
Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1977. Upon graduation Dr. Davis
opened his Grover Beach office where he has practiced for 28
years. He has treated individuals ranging from children to the
very elderly. He has treated many different types of musculoskeletal
injuries over the years ranging from back and neck injuries to
sports related injuries.

Aly Ewen, MPT |
Aly grew up in York, Pennsylvania. As a child her favorite pages in the encyclopedia were the cellophane overlays of the human body. This fascination with the human body remained, even though her early focus in college was more geared towards psychology. Aly left college as a young age to marry and raise a family. The desire for more knowledge was strong.
|
Desiring an academic challenge, Aly returned to school when her children were well established in school themselves. The first class she enrolled in was Anatomy. At that point, she was hooked and knew she had to major in a field in which the primary focus was the human body. Physical Therapy was a natural fit.
After taking as many courses as possible at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, CA, Aly eventually earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences (with a Physical Therapy option) in June 1999 and then her Master of Physical Therapy degree in June 2000 from California State University, Northridge. Clinical affiliations and internships included acute care at St. Francis Medical Center in Santa Barbara, skilled nursing facility care at Villa Maria Care Center in Santa Maria, pediatrics in association with California Children’s Services at the Santa Maria Medical Therapy Unit, and outpatient care at Sports and Wellness Physical Therapy in Santa Maria.
From November 2000 to 2010, Aly worked with the team of physical and occupational therapists at Sims Physical Therapy in Santa Maria, CA. Aly’s focus in treatment was orthopedic outpatient physical therapy with special interests in gait dysfunction, neurologic care, wound care, and lymphedema management. Aly’s outpatient caseload included simple to complex orthopedic, post-trauma, post-surgical, neurologic, and complex neurologic/orthopedic cases.
In July 2008, Aly joined the team at Cornerstone Physical Therapy & Spinal Rehab Center & Physical Therapy Rehabilitation. The opportunity to blend physical therapy with spinal decompression treatment and spinal manipulation as needed was (and is) an exciting concept with potential for excellent outcomes. |

Karen Hoeschen, PTA
Karen was born and raised in California. She went to school in San Diego and graduated from Mesa College where she earned her Associates of Science degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant. She worked in a small hospital setting for several years and then in a private practice physical therapy setting for a year before eventually moving to Washington State with her husband and two little girls. While raising her children, she worked for a year at a Group health Cooperative as a PTA. Then for several years she worked for a Para educator in the Special Education Department with the Mukilteo School District.
When her daughters were in High School, she took a massage therapy course at Ashmead College. After completing the course she took the state licensing exam and worked as a licensed massage therapist in a private medical clinic. She has since moved back to California, settling in Cambria. She worked as a PTA for a year with San Luis Sports Therapy, in Morro Bay. The last few years she has worked in a Chiropractic clinic in Templeton performing a variety of front office duties. Karen found she missed working directly with patients and welcomed the opportunity to join the staff at Cornerstone Physical Therapy & Spinal Rehab Center. Karen enjoys camping, hiking, and gardening. She loves living near the ocean on the Central Coast. |
Spinal Decompression
Over
the years it has been necessary to refer an occasional patient
to a specialist for surgery for a herniated disk or relentless
low back pain that just wasn't responding to chiropractic care.
This was because there were no other options. That is until now.
Recently
our clinic has added Spinal Decompression therapy which is an
advanced method of non-surgical treatment of disk related conditions
including herniated, bulged and degenerated disks and their related
symptoms, ie. sciatica. This is done by utilizing Spinal Decompression.
Spinal Decompression has been the most important medical advancement in
the non-surgical, non-invasive treatment of back pain in the past
ten years. The FDA approved Spinal Decompression technology is presently being used by neurologists, orthopedic
surgeons, chiropractic physicians and pain specialists across
the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. We have recently implemented
an entirely separate division to our clinic called the Cornerstone Physical Therapy & Spinal Rehab Center. Here patients with severe lower back conditions
are treated exclusively with Spinal Decompression. Our clinic
was the first to bring Spinal Decompression to the central coast.
The results that have been obtained with this therapy in our office,
in many instances, seem to be miraculous. I am very excited to
offer Spinal Decompression to the people on the Central Coast
because now there IS an option when confronted with low back surgery.
At
Cornerstone Physical Therapy & Spinal Rehab Center we educate our patients on how the
body works, and its ability to heal. Read our patients'
testimonials to hear how we help to eliminate pain and restore
quality of life.
Please
refer to our technology page for further
information.
Our
clinic recognizes this new technology can help many patients who
have had little success with other conservative treatment. Spinal Decompression has been the most important medical advance in the non-surgical,
non-invasive treatment of back pain in the past 10 years. This FDA cleared Spinal Decompression technology is
presently being utilized by neurologists, orthopedic surgeons,
chiropractic physicians, family physicians, pain specialists,
and physical therapists across the United States, Canada, Europe
and Asia.
We
now can help patients that prior to Spinal Decompression would have had to live in pain for the rest of their lives. They
come to us when other treatments have failed to give them relief.
We
look forward to being of help to you!
